22nd June 2023 – Manningford Trout Fishery

Manningford June 23rd

Today Fishing For Forces entertained 10 Irish Guards to a days flyfishing at Manningford Trout Fishery in Wiltshire.

The day started with the usual banter and caustic comments as expected from soldiers especially those who had never fished before. Things turned very positive when the thought of winning a superbly engraved tankard and it was game on. The mentors did a superb job of coaching and advising on flies and techniques and the air of focus by the lads was a pleasure to behold. The weather was kind and quite a few fish were very obliging so no blanks recorded. Lt Col Williams kindly passed a couple of comments made by the guests at the end of the day such as;

“The best day I’ve had in the Army” and another “I’ve just realised I’ve not looked at my mobile phone once”. I think these comments speak volumes.

The general consensus was that the bacon & sausage baps served upon arrival were lovely and the lunch was great and the weather quite kind to us.

Heaviest Fish of    3lb.14ozs  Went to Lt Moffitt  Mentor Lt Col Williams

Heaviest Bag   11.lb 5ozs Went to Guardsman  A Brooks   Mentor  Paul Savill

Many thanks have to go to the mentors and the fishery staff who really worked hard to ensure the guests had a superb day.

The smiles in the attached photos speak a thousand words so judge for yourselves.
