The Dalkia Trout Fishing Day
Venue. Meon Springs Trout Fishery Guests QOGLR 14 SQDN Gurkha regiment
The day got off to a cracking start as the guests arrived several of whom had been guests of FFF in years gone by so it was a meeting of old and new friends. Several mentors remembered having mentored them and were very pleased to see how accomplished they had become with a fly rod.
A number of the guests are members of the Koshi Fly Fishing Club (named after the largest river in Nepal) and proudly wore their embroidered shirts. I was very proud to wear mine having contributed a little when the club was formed and I was presented with the shirt at the time. They also have a team entering the Army Fly Fishing Championships which is a superb accomplishment.
Off to the waterside and in a short space of time fish were being weighed in by both novices and competent guests that was very pleasing to see.
The weather was very kind to us and the day progressed too quickly and only one blank had to be rectified before the closing whistle went and this was accomplished in short order so mission accomplished.
The smiles and banter that had filled the day continued through the lunch up to the prize giving and it went very quiet as I started to read the results.
Applause was resounding for the winners of the Tankards presented by Mr Jeremy Neville and Lt Col David Williams followed by lots of comments aimed at the winners by their compatriots that I was unsure of as they were in Nepalese but am sure they were complimentary, I think.
Biggest fish went to Pvt Rabin Tammang.
Biggest bag went to Pvt Aashish Rai.
The day ended on a very high note when I was presented with a superb gift of a Regimental Plaque (see Pics) that I gladly accepted on behalf of all the mentors past and present and the Sponsor Dalkia, courtesy of Gautier Jacob. It has been added to my “Wall of Pride”.
