12th June – Meon Springs RNAS Yeovilton
The weather was kind to us all and the guests were keen to get to the waterside so all lectures on H&S etc were completed and we set out for what turned out to be a great day for all.
I will not blather on but safe to say the camaraderie, banter and usual snide comments when a guest landed a fish continued throughout the day until they departed. The guests were vociferous with their thanks to the chef for the splendid lunch and applauded the mentors upon departure for the sterling job they did ensuring all the guests caught fish.
A superb surprise gift was sprung on us all at the prize giving when Geoff Brooks from St Michael Flyfishers presented the guests with a framed Charles Jardine Grayling print (Lady of the Stream) for their unit to hang in their mess.
I received one as well which was truly humbling and it was on my “Wall of Pride” by evening.
Another pleasant surprise was the news of the birthday that day of young Andrea one of our staunchest supporters and an excellent guide & fully qualified instructor. We surprised her with a huge birthday cake and 150 candles. Her smile says it all.
The Biggest Bag prize was won by SLt A Storey with an excellent 4 fish bag of 11lbs aided by his mentor Richard Faulkner.
The Biggest Fish prize was won by Lt Cmdr S Holman with a superb fish of 3.5lbs aided by her mentor Joan Russell.
Several of the guests grasped the casting technique quickly and it was a pleasure to see so many doing so well thanks to the excellent guidance of the mentors.
Another memorable day in the history of FFF.
